Sunday

Sunday

We left early for Chambord and Chenonceau, two beautiful French Chateaus. It was a 4.5 hour trip to the first one, so we cauhgt a few extra winks on the bus.
Chateaus had been the residences for French Kings and were absolutely beautiful. After spending most of the day touring them, we spent some time @ a local winery which was fun. We tasted 5 of their wines which was fun too.
Off to Paris tomorrow!

Tuesday

Started the day with a bus tour of Paris. The tour guide wasn’t great – I fell asleep a couple of times 🙂
Notre Dame in Paris was gorgeous. Lots of beautiful stained glass and flying butresses.
We spent an hour looking for a computer store because we ran out of memory on our camera. The search was fun because we just wandered around a few neighborhoods.
We took the bus to the palace of Versailles, Louis the 14th’s castle. To say that it was huge and ornate would be an understatement.
The last activity of the day was a boat ride on the Sienne.

Monday

Left for Paris today. First stop was the Cathedral in Chartre. Beautiful stained glass windows.
We stopped at a truck stop for lunch – nothing like it in the states! Fresh quiche, salads and wine. Tres Bon!
Next stop Paris. We toured the highlights of the Louvre – mona lisa, venus d’milo, napoleaon’s apartments.
After dinner we went to the TOP of the Eiffel Tower. The city was all lit up. Very Breathtaking!
Tommorow is Notre Dame and a boat ride on the siene.

Saturday

Great French breakfast – incl. fresh baguettes. Bayeux is a cute little town!
We went to the Omaha D-Day memorial and Point du Hoc. Extremely moving.
We travelled about an hour to Mon St Michel. A beautiful 6th century abbey that was built into a magnificent cathedral on an island. The cathedral took up the entire island.
We had dinner (scalloped salmon with baked apple)

Official tour started

Well, today the official tour started. We woke up at 6.30 for a 7.30 breakfast. We toured London on a bus until lunch. We ate in Covent Garden – then Sus and I spent the rest of the day at the British Museum.
Last night’s dinner was pretty disappointing-it was a grungy Italian restaurant and we had 2 chicken legs for the main course.
Tonight’s dinner was better-we ate at an Indian restaurant. We had curried beans and (Anna close your eyes) lamb. Zach-they served your favorite bread things.
Off to Stone Henge,Salisbury and then to Normandy tomorrow.

Friday

Today we went to Stone Henge. Very cool place! We then toured Salisbury Cathedral, the tallest cathedral in England.
We boarded a ferry in Poole and we also saw Brownsea island-the birthplace of the Boy Scouts.
The boat trip was adventurous – a few seasick people (Sus & I were fine). Got into France @ 10.30p
